And don’t forget to check out our other episodes for more travel inspiration, tips, and cultural exchanges – because the road doesn’t end here!
[00:00:00] I think it's very important travel because it allows you to experience different cultures and, you know, where you can get a chance to see more of the world and get a better understanding of the world.
[00:00:17] So today's show we're talking about road tripping and in the sense of domestically and internationally.
[00:00:23] I know all of us have traveled and we've been to different places, but we really haven't necessarily talked about being in a car, you know, or being in a car internationally and driving.
[00:00:37] And I think all of us have gone through something like that.
[00:00:41] So I had the opportunity to interview my brother-in-law and sister-in-law who you'll probably hear from somewhere along this episode.
[00:00:52] But who wants to open up and talk about road trips? Who's got a story?
[00:00:57] Well, I mean, the first thing that comes to mind is that National Lampoon's vacation movie.
[00:01:02] That's what I think about it.
[00:01:04] Yeah, with road tripping.
[00:01:06] And I mean, we didn't do like, I guess we did, but it mostly was road tripping to see family, not like going out like on a multi-day type of thing.
[00:01:17] It would be like a six hour drive or something like that.
[00:01:20] Yeah.
[00:01:21] Which I don't really like being in a car for that long.
[00:01:25] I find it challenging to drive like more than an hour.
[00:01:31] So.
[00:01:33] I can tell you, that's all we did.
[00:01:35] You could not live here in Texas then.
[00:01:36] Yeah.
[00:01:37] That's all we did.
[00:01:38] I do it, but I don't enjoy it.
[00:01:40] Like I don't like driving more than an hour and a half, two hours, you know.
[00:01:44] What are some of the road trips that you all have taken that you can recall?
[00:01:50] Have you actually taken?
[00:01:51] Vegas.
[00:01:51] Okay, Vegas.
[00:01:51] We moved from Vegas and we were coming here to Texas.
[00:01:56] Okay.
[00:01:57] That was a long, nice trip, but we made it fun.
[00:02:01] We stopped in a bunch of different states, you know, and just enjoyed seeing different things.
[00:02:06] Sure.
[00:02:06] But we made it fun, you know.
[00:02:08] I went through Nebraska and saw my parents, you know.
[00:02:10] Sure.
[00:02:11] So made little stops along the way.
[00:02:14] Yeah.
[00:02:14] Yeah.
[00:02:16] How old was she at that time?
[00:02:18] You recall.
[00:02:19] So we're coming from Maryland.
[00:02:21] No.
[00:02:21] You talking about here?
[00:02:22] From Las Vegas.
[00:02:23] Oh, but from Las Vegas, we're going to Las Vegas to Maryland.
[00:02:26] To Maryland.
[00:02:26] Oh yeah, not Texas.
[00:02:28] Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
[00:02:29] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:02:30] We went from Las Vegas to Maryland.
[00:02:31] So we made that whole trip through the Midwest and back down to the South and we stopped here
[00:02:36] in Texas.
[00:02:37] And then we made our way through Florida and the up east coast in Maryland.
[00:02:43] And then when we left Maryland, we came here.
[00:02:46] Uh huh.
[00:02:46] So we went back down the east coast.
[00:02:48] Oh my gosh.
[00:02:50] Around the south and then here in Texas.
[00:02:52] And how, what span of time did you do that?
[00:02:55] Maryland from here, I think it was like a week.
[00:02:58] Did we do like a week?
[00:03:00] In terms of road trip itself.
[00:03:01] Yeah, it was about a week.
[00:03:02] It was about a week.
[00:03:03] Each one was about a week.
[00:03:04] Yeah.
[00:03:05] Right.
[00:03:06] Yeah.
[00:03:07] So what are, what are some of the activities that you all do on those long road trips?
[00:03:10] Like what actually we do play, um, word games.
[00:03:15] So we'll be like, um, we'll pick a subject.
[00:03:19] I don't know, like fruit.
[00:03:22] I mean, that's kind of ridiculous, but are like cities, but we'll go through the alphabet
[00:03:26] and like, I have to name something with a, and then my husband has to start with B and
[00:03:29] we'll go around.
[00:03:30] We do that.
[00:03:31] And that keeps us entertained.
[00:03:32] Um, we did sort of tell the kids that we tricked them.
[00:03:37] They didn't realize until later that this was like a trick, but we're like, let's play
[00:03:41] the silent game.
[00:03:43] Oh, every, every parent does that.
[00:03:46] 3, 2, 1.
[00:03:47] But they, and they just realized like that that was not an actual game until many years
[00:03:52] later.
[00:03:53] We're like, 3, 2, 1, go.
[00:03:55] I don't, I don't remember road trips as much for myself because my mother used to hate
[00:04:00] driving to this day.
[00:04:01] I mean, she drives now, but even, even now I've noticed as her age, she, she does not
[00:04:05] like driving.
[00:04:06] So we never took a lot of road trips.
[00:04:08] Now when people came to visit, we would take road trips.
[00:04:12] But, um, the, the, I would say the, as far as growing up, the road trips that I used to
[00:04:19] go with was my uncle and my aunt.
[00:04:21] We used to go to Chicago.
[00:04:22] We used to drive from Houston to Chicago.
[00:04:24] Oh my.
[00:04:25] Um, and we did that twice.
[00:04:27] And I remember it was my uncle's VW van.
[00:04:30] You remember those old vans, like camper van that had, you know, you could, you had a
[00:04:35] little stove and all that stuff, but it was three of us.
[00:04:38] My cousin of my two cousins and myself and my aunt, my uncle.
[00:04:43] So I would go, that's our, that was our road trip.
[00:04:46] And typically.
[00:04:47] I think, or it's to say, usually it was during the colder months.
[00:04:51] So it was, well, how long?
[00:04:53] So we have, I don't even know.
[00:04:57] I can't 16 hours.
[00:04:58] I think it is.
[00:04:59] I think it's like continuous driving.
[00:05:02] No one drives.
[00:05:02] Yeah.
[00:05:03] You shouldn't be driving.
[00:05:05] Because I've done that.
[00:05:06] It's not because my uncle would do all the driving.
[00:05:08] If I can remember correctly, he was always driving.
[00:05:11] As far as an adult.
[00:05:13] Oh, we've been everywhere.
[00:05:15] Um, Earl and I have driven from, uh, uh, for my best friend's wedding.
[00:05:20] Actually, we drove from Houston to, uh, Rhode Island.
[00:05:24] Oh my God.
[00:05:25] I thought you were going to say like, that's pretty dog.
[00:05:27] Oh no, no, we've done.
[00:05:29] We've done.
[00:05:29] I think our weirdest or most complex road trip that we've ever taken as a family.
[00:05:35] And this is with a, I think a.
[00:05:38] 15 year olds at the time.
[00:05:40] Maybe Kayla was my oldest was probably maybe she might've been 13.
[00:05:45] I also had a, they're 11 years apart.
[00:05:47] So figure it out.
[00:05:48] Uh, I know for sure that.
[00:05:49] But Mason was four and Julia was a year and a half.
[00:05:54] So we went from Houston to Orlando.
[00:05:57] Cause we went to Disney world.
[00:06:00] Oh my God.
[00:06:01] From, uh, Disney world.
[00:06:02] Oh God.
[00:06:03] Yeah.
[00:06:04] Yeah.
[00:06:04] Disney world to, uh, St.
[00:06:07] Louis.
[00:06:09] St.
[00:06:10] Louis to Delaware.
[00:06:12] Delaware to Jersey, then Delaware, then Delaware back to St.
[00:06:15] Louis, St.
[00:06:16] Louis.
[00:06:16] Hell I'm looking at the map behind you and I'm like, are you flipping kidding me?
[00:06:21] Two and a half weeks.
[00:06:22] We took.
[00:06:23] Oh, hell no.
[00:06:25] Because they little kids don't understand that they can't just like get out of the car
[00:06:29] seat.
[00:06:30] I mean, cause nowadays you can't just have them be bopping around in the back.
[00:06:33] But it was snacks.
[00:06:35] Yeah.
[00:06:35] Well, yeah, but after a lot of, lots of snacks.
[00:06:38] We, we, uh, I mean, it was, we were only going from DC to West point and like the traffic
[00:06:43] was so bad.
[00:06:44] And come Ron was a toddler, like nine months old, just screaming.
[00:06:49] And I mean, I, there was nothing I could do.
[00:06:51] He wanted out and we weren't there yet.
[00:06:54] Sure.
[00:06:55] And so like, and I'm in, Thomas is driving his own vehicle.
[00:06:58] So he's just like, well, I'm with this screaming kid and we had the little walkie talkies
[00:07:04] that I was trying to like, you know, I, I had the, I was pressing the button so he
[00:07:07] could hear come on screaming, but I'm sure he just turned that shit off.
[00:07:11] Oh my God.
[00:07:13] And you know, I remembered, I remembered that trip because we had a, you know, one of the
[00:07:17] Toyota Siennas, um, you know, the, uh, uh, I would say post egg shape, right?
[00:07:23] So it was one of the newer ones, you know, that was shaped and you could remove the seat.
[00:07:28] Is it the caravan looking caravan?
[00:07:30] Yeah.
[00:07:30] It was like, it was a minivan if you will.
[00:07:32] And so we took out the, one of the seats, which was the backseat.
[00:07:35] So Mason was in the very back, Julia in her car seat in the captain seat.
[00:07:41] And cause they had captain seats in that second row.
[00:07:43] And then, uh, Kayla in the other captain seats and then Earl and I up front.
[00:07:48] And that sucker was loaded down because that one had the pocket, you know, that has like
[00:07:52] the deep pocket underneath.
[00:07:53] So that was kind of like the new thing.
[00:07:56] And all we did was pass snacks back and forth.
[00:07:58] And I just remember us passing the snacks and Julia just, you know, being one and a half.
[00:08:04] And if she didn't get any, if we were passing it back to Mason, she would go.
[00:08:07] Yeah.
[00:08:09] So the funny thing is, is that when it was time to stop or we, you know, rest up or whatever,
[00:08:15] we would take Julia out for car seat.
[00:08:18] And there was nothing but crumbs.
[00:08:20] Bottom because she did not miss a snack.
[00:08:24] Oh gosh.
[00:08:26] It was everything.
[00:08:27] It was like Oreos and Cheetos.
[00:08:31] Like, I just can't like.
[00:08:33] Music.
[00:08:34] Music.
[00:08:35] Oh my God.
[00:08:35] It's so boring.
[00:08:36] Like has been, you know.
[00:08:38] Or probably one of those, those, those games, right?
[00:08:42] Yeah.
[00:08:43] I mean, you do the games, but.
[00:08:45] I was going to say by the time Julia was, was coming up, iPad was out, I'm assuming,
[00:08:50] or iPod or something like this.
[00:08:53] We never, we never had any of that.
[00:08:54] It was always music and you brought your own book.
[00:08:56] Mason would bring his books.
[00:08:57] Oh, a book.
[00:08:58] Kayla had her books.
[00:08:59] I can't read in the car.
[00:09:00] I get nauseous.
[00:09:02] Yeah.
[00:09:02] A couple of times when we've done a trip together to where, you know, we follow a similar,
[00:09:05] a similar pattern, you know, when we stop in Kansas City, but on the way back, we typically
[00:09:09] stop in Oklahoma City and, you know, kind of experience Oklahoma City a little bit.
[00:09:13] There's this thing called Bricktown.
[00:09:15] Yes.
[00:09:16] Right.
[00:09:16] Yeah.
[00:09:16] You know, they got a nice brewery day that we always go to.
[00:09:20] Yeah.
[00:09:20] And, you know, I got the river walk there too.
[00:09:23] And then we've also seen the, was it 9-11?
[00:09:28] Not in 9-11, but the.
[00:09:30] Oh, the, when they had the bombing there.
[00:09:32] Yes.
[00:09:32] So they have a, so they have a memorial there in Oklahoma bombing.
[00:09:35] Yes.
[00:09:35] So there's a memorial there.
[00:09:36] Okay.
[00:09:37] There's a memorial there.
[00:09:37] It's very serene and, you know, it's very, it's very moving memorial.
[00:09:42] So it's very well done.
[00:09:43] Yeah.
[00:09:43] Okay.
[00:09:44] So that's, that's notable.
[00:09:46] Yeah.
[00:09:46] What else would you say that's along that route that, you know, that would be interesting
[00:09:50] to kind of take?
[00:09:52] Well, I stopped in Tulsa.
[00:09:55] Mm-hmm.
[00:09:55] Mm-hmm.
[00:09:56] And, uh.
[00:09:57] Yeah.
[00:09:57] Tulsa is a lot of fun.
[00:09:58] It was nice there.
[00:10:01] We had Blackwall Street.
[00:10:02] The, yeah, we stopped.
[00:10:03] I, you know, had Alexis with me.
[00:10:05] So we stopped at Blackwall Street.
[00:10:06] Blackwall Street.
[00:10:07] Yes.
[00:10:07] Went to the museums there.
[00:10:09] Mm-hmm.
[00:10:10] And, you know, just experienced all of that, you know, for her.
[00:10:12] For me too.
[00:10:13] Yes.
[00:10:13] So it's just been kind of nice just to kind of experience different things and then.
[00:10:18] Sure.
[00:10:18] Just still just showing Alexis the way and.
[00:10:21] Yeah.
[00:10:21] History and whatnot.
[00:10:23] Mm-hmm.
[00:10:23] We like to go to, um, like Red Rock Canyon, which was very beautiful.
[00:10:28] Mm-hmm.
[00:10:29] Um, there was wild horses out there and then, um, Mount Charleston.
[00:10:33] We live like in the valley, so we, um, could see like the snow in the mountains on Mount
[00:10:37] Charleston.
[00:10:38] Very cool.
[00:10:39] So we'd go up to the mountains and be in the snow, you know.
[00:10:42] Sure.
[00:10:42] And then we'd come down and it'd be, you know, a hundred degrees, you know.
[00:10:45] Right.
[00:10:45] So we went to Mount Charleston and, um, we used to really like to go to, um, just south
[00:10:50] of the strip.
[00:10:51] I think it was south of the strip.
[00:10:52] It was Lake Las Vegas.
[00:10:54] Okay.
[00:10:54] And it was really beautiful out there.
[00:10:56] They had a nice, a bunch of nice resorts and restaurants.
[00:10:59] Sure.
[00:11:00] It was just a really cool vibe out there.
[00:11:01] Yeah.
[00:11:02] Yeah.
[00:11:02] Yeah.
[00:11:02] I really liked it out there.
[00:11:04] Yeah.
[00:11:04] Cool.
[00:11:05] What are some other, what are some other memorable trips that you've taken that you think road
[00:11:09] tripping and just driving that you've, that you've gone to?
[00:11:13] Well, I will, I'll tell one that you probably are not thinking of right now.
[00:11:17] Right.
[00:11:18] That's the one when we drove to San Francisco.
[00:11:21] Oh, wow.
[00:11:23] Yeah.
[00:11:23] That was a true test.
[00:11:25] That was a true test if, um, we were going to make it as a couple.
[00:11:29] I worked for a doctor and he was like, Destiny, if you can make it through this trip, then
[00:11:33] you know, he's the one.
[00:11:35] So we went to San Francisco.
[00:11:38] Yeah.
[00:11:39] And then we drove down the coast all the way down to, um, LA.
[00:11:44] Mm-hmm.
[00:11:44] So, and it was so beautiful, you know, you know, PCH, you know, and.
[00:11:48] Of course.
[00:11:49] Yeah.
[00:11:49] We made it, but it was just a beautiful trip.
[00:11:53] I totally forgot about that.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:55] Yeah.
[00:11:56] What's the, what would you say the top three things that you should do?
[00:12:00] Um, when you road trip.
[00:12:03] I always feel, I always need food.
[00:12:05] Snacks.
[00:12:05] Snacks.
[00:12:07] Snacks.
[00:12:07] Snacks is always a thing for me.
[00:12:08] Yes.
[00:12:10] I would say, have an open mind.
[00:12:13] Uh huh.
[00:12:13] And as an example, you know, when we were in the, I drank Cayman, you know, well, we,
[00:12:19] we decided to rent a car and they drive on the other side of where they drive in the States.
[00:12:24] Yes.
[00:12:24] So on the left.
[00:12:25] Yes.
[00:12:26] You know, so just be open and, um, you know, be willing to, um, experience that.
[00:12:31] Mm-hmm .
[00:12:31] So I'm open mind.
[00:12:32] And what would you say the third thing is?
[00:12:38] Safety.
[00:12:38] Just, um, just know where you're at and just safety because there's always good places
[00:12:44] and bad places wherever you go.
[00:12:46] Mm-hmm .
[00:12:46] Mm-hmm .
[00:12:47] Just be mindful, right?
[00:12:49] Yeah.
[00:12:49] Now.
[00:12:50] If I get out of Ford.
[00:12:52] Yes, please.
[00:12:52] I would say, or at the 3, at 3B.
[00:12:55] Right?
[00:12:56] That is a ticket time.
[00:12:57] Okay.
[00:12:58] Yeah.
[00:12:58] You know, and taking the sceneries.
[00:13:00] Yeah.
[00:13:01] Yeah, for sure.
[00:13:02] Uh, any of those road trips done, uh, pre GPS?
[00:13:06] Oh, with the maps.
[00:13:08] Oh, God.
[00:13:08] Yeah.
[00:13:08] With actual maps.
[00:13:09] Yeah.
[00:13:10] An actual map.
[00:13:11] Yeah.
[00:13:11] So you really didn't know how long it was going to take you to get there.
[00:13:15] You just kind of thought, you know, based on the fact that you were going a certain speed.
[00:13:19] Or you had to have like the book and then, then you had to get a different map or cross pages.
[00:13:26] Or you just, or you, or if you guys remember map quest.com because you get, or you go to AART.
[00:13:32] Oh, you would do it in advance and print it, right?
[00:13:34] And then they mail you, they mail you the directions.
[00:13:38] Oh my God.
[00:13:38] I remember that.
[00:13:38] But that was even, but that was even before then, because yes, you could do that, but
[00:13:44] before you could even look it up, you're at the atlases.
[00:13:48] Yeah.
[00:13:49] I mean, they pull over on the side of the road because you got to look.
[00:13:51] Or you'd be trying to do it while driving, which isn't very.
[00:13:54] Oh yeah.
[00:13:55] Oh my God.
[00:13:55] I myself, you know me, the planner, I would actually have the map.
[00:13:58] I would have it out on which way we could go.
[00:14:01] We would have like a different, oh, well, if we cut through on this street, we might be
[00:14:05] able to do this.
[00:14:06] It took us, I remember making that trek to Disney World because we had never been, we
[00:14:12] had never been that way before, you know, going straight up 10 going, you know, what
[00:14:17] is that?
[00:14:17] And it doesn't give you detours either.
[00:14:20] Oh no, no, no, no.
[00:14:21] So I remember doing that.
[00:14:23] And I remember stopping off at a convenience store and asking, you know, Carol was like,
[00:14:27] so how much longer, you know, we got to Panama city or Panama and our Pensacola.
[00:14:32] We're like, oh my God, we're almost there.
[00:14:34] Oh my God.
[00:14:34] No, no, no, we weren't.
[00:14:37] And I remember going to, you got like eight hours left.
[00:14:39] They were like, oh no, I knew that.
[00:14:42] Like, yeah, about eight, 10 hours.
[00:14:43] If you're going to stop again, you're going to, we actually didn't make it to our condo,
[00:14:48] I think until about midnight.
[00:14:49] Oh God.
[00:14:50] We set out from like.
[00:14:51] More than between Florida and Pennsylvania and California.
[00:14:55] I don't know.
[00:14:56] Like I remember I had to drive and doing road trip.
[00:15:00] Obviously I did it by myself.
[00:15:01] This was when I was moving to Oklahoma.
[00:15:03] Oh my gosh.
[00:15:05] And I just graduated.
[00:15:06] There's nothing to see there.
[00:15:07] Wow.
[00:15:08] And not only that, I had my first, first car that I can probably say I bought after graduation
[00:15:15] and it was a geo tracker.
[00:15:17] I don't know if you guys remember that one.
[00:15:19] I mean, I was going to school at Miami.
[00:15:21] So I pulled the top down, but here's the kicker.
[00:15:24] I drove from, I drove in that from Miami to New York, you know, to see family before moving.
[00:15:31] Oh my God.
[00:15:32] That's so far.
[00:15:33] Moving to New York, moving to Oklahoma.
[00:15:35] Then I had to drive from New York, drive the whole length of Pennsylvania from.
[00:15:42] Yeah.
[00:15:43] On that.
[00:15:43] The turnpike is, I don't like it.
[00:15:46] Let me tell you, that was the worst drive ever.
[00:15:48] And I was by myself and I didn't even have a radio in my car.
[00:15:52] Cause I couldn't do it.
[00:15:53] Oh, oh.
[00:15:55] Okay.
[00:15:55] That's where Jeff would help me.
[00:15:57] I wouldn't even set out.
[00:15:58] There's no way I could set out on a trip.
[00:15:59] I was, I was going nuts.
[00:16:01] I was going nuts.
[00:16:02] I was singing to myself.
[00:16:04] I was by myself.
[00:16:05] I was singing to myself.
[00:16:07] People probably thought I was a loony bin because I literally.
[00:16:12] With a license.
[00:16:13] Aye aye aye aye.
[00:16:13] I could not afford, I was going, this was when I was just about to be an officer
[00:16:18] and I literally, I think I only had $300 to my name because you know, we were
[00:16:24] You were driving.
[00:16:25] You hadn't gotten the paycheck.
[00:16:26] Oh yeah.
[00:16:27] Well, we did.
[00:16:28] We got an ROTC paycheck, which was like $250.
[00:16:31] No, no, you're a lieutenant paycheck.
[00:16:33] Oh, no, no, no.
[00:16:33] Not until you sign in.
[00:16:35] Oh wow.
[00:16:35] The government does that.
[00:16:37] It's a good thing gases wasn't that expensive then.
[00:16:38] Oh yeah.
[00:16:39] Oh yeah, exactly.
[00:16:40] And I was, and plus I had a small geo tracker, so I was good.
[00:16:44] And then I did stay in a motel off the highway in Indianapolis.
[00:16:51] Oh my God.
[00:16:52] Like an actual motel?
[00:16:53] Like a real motel?
[00:16:54] An actual motel.
[00:16:55] Yeah, that was a real motel.
[00:16:55] You could see the highway.
[00:16:56] It was creepy as hell.
[00:16:58] Yeah, it was a seedy as hell.
[00:17:00] But it was $35.
[00:17:02] Oh, gross.
[00:17:02] And I remember it was the creepiest thing because I was on the first floor and it
[00:17:06] was like, it wasn't like indoors, it was outdoor.
[00:17:09] Right.
[00:17:09] It was kind of like one of those you walk up and you can just shoot somebody kind of hotel.
[00:17:14] Wow.
[00:17:15] Yeah.
[00:17:15] It was the one with the door on the outside.
[00:17:17] Exactly.
[00:17:18] The biggest thing about road tripping, right?
[00:17:20] Is the fact that it's, it's more economical to do.
[00:17:24] Typically when you have more, you know, more than one, right.
[00:17:27] Or, or more than two, I should say.
[00:17:29] Buying plane tickets for nine kids, you know, like that's just.
[00:17:32] Yeah.
[00:17:32] It just doesn't work.
[00:17:33] Train tickets.
[00:17:35] Those are even more, well, there's those, it's just as expensive in the States.
[00:17:38] Well, it is.
[00:17:39] I was just going to say, depends on where we're talking about.
[00:17:41] Right.
[00:17:42] So, but as we're talking about this and the, again, the economics of that, it makes sense
[00:17:49] to do that.
[00:17:51] Not to mention, I believe because the United States, and I guess there's a continuous states
[00:17:56] and how they go.
[00:17:57] Um, if you're not in Texas, because it takes you all day.
[00:18:02] If you're going to drive from tip to tip, it's going to take you all day to get, if not
[00:18:06] more to get out of Texas.
[00:18:09] Um, it's, uh, it's interesting.
[00:18:11] You know, it makes sense to be able to do that, particularly if you're moving, uh, you
[00:18:15] know, changing jobs, whatever the situation is, a lot of people will go to road trips.
[00:18:19] And so when I was speaking to, um, to Destiny and Mark, uh, they actually spoke about one
[00:18:27] of their first trips that they actually took together.
[00:18:29] What can you remember about road tripping to Vegas?
[00:18:32] Well, that's a very, uh, memorable experience.
[00:18:37] Reasonably because, uh, Destiny and I were dating at the time, I was actually stationed
[00:18:41] in Omaha, Nebraska.
[00:18:43] Uh huh.
[00:18:43] So I got orders to relocate from Omaha to, uh, to Las Vegas.
[00:18:48] Right.
[00:18:48] And, you know, she graciously, uh, rode with me.
[00:18:51] You know, so, um, that was a, that was a long drive.
[00:18:55] I can't recall where we, I know where we stopped.
[00:18:57] You stopped coming.
[00:18:58] Yes, we stopped.
[00:18:59] Yes.
[00:18:59] Yes.
[00:18:59] So, um, yes, I think we drew, we, we stopped in New Mexico.
[00:19:05] We stopped in Albuquerque.
[00:19:06] Okay.
[00:19:06] Yeah.
[00:19:06] And, um, you know, so, um, had a chance to walk around Albuquerque a little bit.
[00:19:10] Right.
[00:19:11] The sites and stuff like that.
[00:19:13] And then, um, from there we continued west and, uh, we stopped in the Flagstaff area.
[00:19:20] Mm-hmm.
[00:19:20] We stayed in Flagstaff.
[00:19:21] Yes, absolutely right.
[00:19:22] Yes.
[00:19:23] Okay.
[00:19:23] We stayed in Flagstaff.
[00:19:25] Um, um, I can't recall if we went to the Grand Canyon or were we.
[00:19:28] We went to the rim of it.
[00:19:30] Yes, that's right.
[00:19:31] Okay.
[00:19:31] The rim of the Grand Canyon.
[00:19:32] Okay.
[00:19:32] Yes.
[00:19:33] I mean, that's.
[00:19:33] And that was my first time.
[00:19:35] Really?
[00:19:35] Yes.
[00:19:35] And what was that experience like, Destiny?
[00:19:37] What was that?
[00:19:37] What was that?
[00:19:38] I mean, kind of.
[00:19:38] It was amazing because, you know, you see it in books or on TV or whatever, but just,
[00:19:43] just the grandness of it, you know.
[00:19:47] Yeah.
[00:19:47] It was nice and we kind of hiked down a little bit.
[00:19:49] I got a little scared, but, uh, came back up, but it was, it was, it was nice.
[00:19:54] Oh, that's cool.
[00:19:54] Yeah.
[00:19:55] Um, that was, uh, that was really interesting.
[00:19:59] Have you all driven internationally?
[00:20:01] Have you driven on the other side of the road or road trip?
[00:20:04] In Japan?
[00:20:05] Yeah.
[00:20:05] For whatever reason, they drive on the other side of the road, which is definitely.
[00:20:08] So left, being left as opposed to the right.
[00:20:10] Yeah.
[00:20:11] I have.
[00:20:12] Yeah.
[00:20:13] Yeah.
[00:20:13] I have.
[00:20:14] And I tried when I was in New Zealand, but I failed miserably and I, I got out of driving
[00:20:22] actually and had friends do it for me because it was a stick shift.
[00:20:26] Uh huh.
[00:20:27] And I'm not that.
[00:20:28] Yeah.
[00:20:28] With the left hand.
[00:20:30] Yeah.
[00:20:30] Exactly.
[00:20:30] Also on the other side of the other side.
[00:20:32] On the other side.
[00:20:34] Oh, that's a lot.
[00:20:35] My fear was always the intersections.
[00:20:39] You know, because we're used to.
[00:20:41] No, I.
[00:20:42] I've.
[00:20:42] I've.
[00:20:42] That's a lot.
[00:20:43] Yeah.
[00:20:45] I've turned into the wrong lane of like.
[00:20:48] Right.
[00:20:49] Because of the steering wheel is on the wrong side and it freaks me out all the time because
[00:20:52] I'm sitting in the passenger seat and I'm like, why are you going over your veering
[00:20:56] and I'm like, they're like, what are you talking about?
[00:20:59] Yeah.
[00:21:00] It's weird.
[00:21:00] You know, it's weird.
[00:21:01] So I would probably never do that.
[00:21:03] What was interesting was after living in Japan for five years, it became normal.
[00:21:06] And then to watch like TV shows, it seemed weird to for them driving on the other, the
[00:21:12] right side of the road.
[00:21:13] It was.
[00:21:13] Yeah.
[00:21:13] Yeah.
[00:21:15] What about the most scenic route you've ever taken?
[00:21:17] I think, I think the most.
[00:21:18] Yeah.
[00:21:19] The most scenic or the most.
[00:21:21] Well, not the most beautiful because I have so many.
[00:21:23] And if I'm talking domestically in Europe.
[00:21:25] Mm hmm.
[00:21:26] Mm hmm.
[00:21:27] One of my memorable one that I recently did earlier in January was in the French Riviera
[00:21:32] where I.
[00:21:33] I can only imagine.
[00:21:34] I can only imagine a car from, from Nice.
[00:21:35] And you know, each time you can drive and it's literally one, one way this way and one
[00:21:40] way the opposite way, because you're going around.
[00:21:42] It's kind of like San Francisco or California driving around the cliffs.
[00:21:46] Right.
[00:21:46] And it's just gorgeous and just stunning with the, you know, is it the Mediterranean?
[00:21:52] I don't know what ocean that is, but whatever.
[00:21:54] The ocean that's, that's out there.
[00:21:59] Fair.
[00:21:59] I don't know.
[00:22:00] Well, so actually driving from, from here to, um, Las Vegas, because I was surprised
[00:22:09] with Utah.
[00:22:10] I mean, I thought it was like a wasteland.
[00:22:13] We, we had never, and we were like, wow.
[00:22:16] A lot of mountains.
[00:22:16] Yeah.
[00:22:17] Just the, the vastness of the landscapes here.
[00:22:20] Um, incredible.
[00:22:22] Like I just could not believe how beautiful it was.
[00:22:24] Uh, I would never have seen anything like that.
[00:22:26] We have done Houston.
[00:22:28] We've done Houston to Vegas and that, that taken that route.
[00:22:32] Um, yeah.
[00:22:33] A couple of times.
[00:22:34] New Zealand.
[00:22:35] New Zealand is gorgeous.
[00:22:37] I can only imagine.
[00:22:38] Middle earth man.
[00:22:39] Middle earth man.
[00:22:40] I'm like.
[00:22:40] But not only New Zealand.
[00:22:42] We need to schedule New Zealand.
[00:22:44] The three of us.
[00:22:45] That must be the South Island.
[00:22:47] South Island.
[00:22:47] South Island.
[00:22:49] Oh God.
[00:22:51] Gorgeous.
[00:22:52] Absolutely.
[00:22:53] I will do that.
[00:22:54] That's right.
[00:22:54] I was going to live in Wanaka.
[00:22:56] You're going to live in Queenstown.
[00:22:57] That's right.
[00:22:58] Bingo.
[00:22:58] That's right.
[00:22:59] That's right.
[00:23:01] Queenstown.
[00:23:02] We can talk about that.
[00:23:03] To find a spot then.
[00:23:05] And Trisha, you can be in the middle.
[00:23:08] Maybe you can be in like Wellington or something like this.
[00:23:10] I don't know.
[00:23:12] That's on the other side.
[00:23:14] That's on the other side.
[00:23:15] But that's expensive because, you know, they don't have a lot of housing there.
[00:23:18] They're just starting to get that, you know, get the housing back up.
[00:23:21] Oh no.
[00:23:22] I think.
[00:23:22] But they have more sheep than people.
[00:23:25] That's all.
[00:23:25] They do.
[00:23:26] It's really far away though.
[00:23:28] It's awesome.
[00:23:28] Like it took 14 hours to get there from Tokyo.
[00:23:32] Like it's.
[00:23:32] Yeah.
[00:23:32] It was far.
[00:23:34] It's far.
[00:23:35] Just get there.
[00:23:35] Enjoy the journey folks.
[00:23:37] Yeah.
[00:23:38] Enjoy the journey.
[00:23:39] If anything, that's how, that's how we should end the show and say that, you know, enjoy
[00:23:43] the journey.
[00:23:44] And this is, this has been great.
[00:23:45] I've, I've really enjoyed speaking to you on road tripping.
[00:23:49] Yeah.
[00:23:49] Now, now I want to go on a road trip.
[00:23:52] And I mean, we should.
[00:23:53] We should.
[00:23:54] Yeah.
[00:23:55] We really need to.
[00:23:56] Where the hell would we go?
[00:23:57] So.
[00:23:58] Would it be domestically?
[00:24:00] Can Canada or.
[00:24:02] Well, we can figure it out, but how about we do this?
[00:24:05] How about we ask our viewers?
[00:24:07] Where should.
[00:24:08] Where do you want to see us go?
[00:24:10] Where do you want to see us go on our road trip?
[00:24:12] Tell us which just tell us what the spots that we should go within the Midwest.
[00:24:17] You know, in the, in the middle of the country and give us some points, give us some pointers.
[00:24:22] Where do you live?
[00:24:23] Where, where do you find interesting about your city?
[00:24:25] The reason why we should come and visit.
[00:24:27] So.
[00:24:28] I think that's a, I think that's it for us for today, but great, great conversation.
[00:24:35] Don't forget to definitely subscribe, like, and comment, and make sure you share with your friends.
[00:24:41] We really want to know what you all think and share your road trip with us.
[00:24:45] We'd love to know where you've been.
[00:24:47] That's all for now.
[00:24:48] See you guys next time.
[00:24:50] Ciao.
[00:24:50] wander free пом
[00:24:51] know
